The North Carolina Secretary of State is thrilled to announce the extension of Emergency Video Notarization (EVN) through June 2024. This incredible opportunity allows you to provide notary services through video conferencing, offering unparalleled convenience, safety, and flexibility for both you and your customers.

**Why Choose EVN?**

1. **Convenience:** With EVN, you can administer notarizations from the comfort of your home or anywhere you have access to the internet. Say goodbye to the hassles of scheduling appointments and commuting to different locations. Serve your clients efficiently and save precious time.

2. **Expanded Customer Reach:** EVN enables you to offer your services to a wide range of individuals and institutions. Whether it's the general public, senior living facilities, or individuals with health concerns who prefer minimal contact, EVN allows you to connect with clients across North Carolina, no matter their location.

3. **Safety First:** In today's world, health concerns are paramount. EVN eliminates the need for physical proximity during notarizations, ensuring the safety and well-being of both parties involved. Embrace the power of technology while providing essential services.

4. **Compliance and Privacy:** Senate Bill 552 has made it clear that journal entries made during notarial acts are not subject to public record laws. Rest assured that your clients' sensitive information remains confidential and protected. As we continue to develop rules and regulations, we will keep you informed every step of the way.

HOW COOL IS IT TO OFFER NOTARIAL SERVICES ANYWHERE IN THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA AND PERFORM IT FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN HOME, THE BEACH, A HOTEL ROOM, YOUR CAR, WHEREVER YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET AND A WEBCAM?

**What's New with EVN?**

1. **Extended EVN Period:** Senate Bill 552, signed into law by Gov. Roy Cooper, has extended the EVN period until June 30, 2024, at 12:01 am. Take advantage of this opportunity to establish and grow your remote notarization services.

2. **Journaling Requirements:** SB552 now requires notaries to maintain a journal of all public acts. The SOS anticipates having the rules ready and in effect next year, ensuring you comply with the latest regulations. You can find a downloadable notary journal template on our website.

3. **Vendor and Manufacturer Regulations:** To protect the integrity of notarial acts, vendors and manufacturers are now prohibited from providing a notary seal to purchasers claiming to be notaries without proper verification. Rules for confirming a notary's standing will be established by the Secretary, further safeguarding the authenticity of your services.

4. **The Future of Notarization:** The Department is actively working on Remote Electronic Notary Act (RENA) rules, which will be issued in three phases. These rules will revolutionize notarization procedures, and the first set is set to be published in the NC Register later this summer. Stay ahead of the curve and be part of the future of notarizations.
